Matthew 25: 40

“And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me’”.

It has been my honor and pleasure to be a volunteer firefighter since 1981. Over the past twenty-five years, I have been associated with small departments and large. By virtue of my chaplaincy, I have met and worked side by side with a great variety of gifted persons, all of whom strive to do God’s will by helping their neighbor. The members of the Lake Delta Volunteer Fire Department are no different.

Members of the fire-emergency services are acquainted with the members of the community in which they live and serve. Subsequently, when answering the alarm, each has a personal interest in providing the best possible care for those in distress. All of this is part of God’s great plan for us to serve by caring for all of God’s creation. This, of course, includes God’s greatest creation… humankind.

I am consistently amazed by the dedication of the men and women of the fire-emergency services and by the sacrifices each of them make in their efforts to serve. To those men and women I would say, “know that your efforts do not go unnoticed. The community at large and especially those persons you have aided are grateful and if you are fortunate, they had the opportunity to tell you so”.

Few people are willing to take up their cross and serve. May God bless those who do.

Thank you…  and “Play safe”
